Biography

      The role of the RBL Biosafety Officer is to direct, maintain, and expand the biological safety program for the facility. Responsibilities include training all new personnel, providing ongoing/refresher training to approved personnel, establishing written manuals and standard operating procedures, ensuring all procedures are followed properly, validating all decontamination systems such as autoclaves and gaseous decontamination, and supporting the regulatory requirements of the Select Agent Program.
Lesley Homer is a Registered Biosafety Professional and Certified Biological Safety Professional with the American Biological Safety Association, and has received certification as a Specialist Microbiologist in Biological Safety Microbiology from the National Registry of Microbiologists, ASM. She was the lead author on a paper that received the 2012 Richard C. Knudsen Award from the American Biological Safety Association. She has provided occupational health and safety support to the University of Pittsburgh research community since 2002. Lesley received her B.S. from the University of Miami in 1992 and her M.S. from the University of Delaware in 1998.
