Biography

      Dengue virus (DENV) is a major public health concern worldwide. DENV has four serotypes that mostly causes asymptomatic to a mild clinical manifestation called dengue fever (DF). However, some subjects exposed to the virus suffer a more severe form of the disease, referred as dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), characterized by vasculopathy that may be fatal if not treated promptly. Correlates of DHF include, but not limited, to antibody responses and complement activation. My research has been focused on identifying potential correlates of dengue severity based on antibody responses and complement activation using clinical samples from confirmed dengue cases. These correlates can be used for development of targets for therapeutics and prophylactics against DHF.
